Worksheet: Making an Artwork Inspired by Frida Kahlo
Me and My
World: Art Inspired by Frida Kahlo
Make a photo collage about places you
love.
Frida Kahlo was
proud of her Mexican heritage, and many of her paintings celebrate her country.
In her paintings you will find the Mexican flat, temples, clothing, and
jewellery. Kahlo also showed her travels and how she felt when she was away
from home. Like Kahlo, make a picture that shows two different places that are
important in your life.

1. Choose two places for your picture. Here are some ideas: Did you ever move?
Show where you live now and where you used to live. Did your family move to Australia from
another country? Is there a special place you like to visit? Perhaps you visit
your grandparents in another state or have taken a holiday to an exciting
place.
2. Put a photo of yourself in the centre
of the picture. I used
a photograph of me sleeping to show that I am having a dream about my travels.
3. Collect pictures that show each
place. Look through
travel brochures or use photos you have taken. You can include flags, maps,
food, clothing, buildings, or landscapes.
4. Show a different place on each side.
Try this too!
Me and Myself
In one of her
famous paintings, The Two Fridas,
Kahlo showed herself holding hands with a double of herself! Like Kahlo, make a
double self-portrait – a picture that shows two different sides of you. Take
two photographs of yourself, or make two drawings. Show yourself with two
different feelings. IN one, you might be happy; in the other, perhaps you are
sad, angry, or frightened. Create a place with magazines collage or paint, and
put the two of you in it!
